Such a wonderful story of history with wonderful details of life in this part of the world. I would have given it 4 stars on how much we enjoyed it, but pages were missing. Some pages were repeated as well, which usually does not bother me, but given pages missing; it was disappointing. We were left to wonder what the author wanted us to know about what happened to the lepers in Hawaii. It does give one an opportunity to research this answer. So, it is not a total loss

It was still worth the read. I hope these issues can be corrected because it was a wonderful book my children and I enjoyed as a read-a-loud. I would still recommend it, but warn them of the missing pages.
